Today I’ve been very lucky to receive some gluten free pasties from Voakes Free From Ltd in Yorkshire.
I really couldn’t wait to talk about them. Now I’ve tried quite a few gluten free pasties over the last couple of years and I’ve always been striving to find a gluten free pasty that you can hold in your hand, like a proper food to go snack and it doesn’t crumble or fall apart.
Well I can happily say the Voakes Free From ‘Traditional Pasty’ meets all my expectations, the pastry is excellent, has a golden colour, doesn’t crumble and tastes excellent, the pasty is packed full of steak and mixed vegetables, nicely seasoned and very tasty.
It’s slightly different from the Cornish pasties I’m used to down here, in that it contains meat, onion, carrots, peas and potato and the Cornish pasty only has meat, potato and swede.
My only thought about the Voakes Free From Pasty is that an extra large pasty should be added to the range, as they are very moreish!
A little bit about Voakes Free From….
Voakes Free From, a family firm, belongs to the Voakes Family who have been farming for 40 years and have been making regular pies for many years using their own pigs for their famous pork pies.
The free from range has been developed by the owners son Nick and his partner Laura who was diagnosed with coeliac disease three years ago.
All the meat used if not sourced from their own farm, is always British.
They have worked hard to make the best gluten free products and they work in a purpose built unit, dedicated to gluten and wheat free production.
You can buy Voakes Free From from many stockists and direct from their website www.voakesfreefrom.co.uk
I’m really looking forward to tasting the Voakes Free From pies for my Gluten Free Pie Review coming in April.
